When you volunteer, all students benefit! We simply cannot run many of our programs without the invaluable help of our wonderful volunteers! There are many opportunities for parents and community members to get involved!  Your help is needed! Please review our list of current volunteer opportunities. Or if you just want to know where you can help or become a more active volunteer, email our PTSO.

 VOLUNTEER GUIDELINES

WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU AT OUR PTSO EVENTS AND PROGRAMS!

Parents and members of our community are encouraged and welcome to participate as volunteers to help meet the needs of our students at Sunlake Academy. In our effort to maintain a safe, effective learning environment and to ensure the success of all PTSO events, it is important that the following guidelines are followed.

BE RELIABLE

We are counting on you! If you sign up to volunteer, please follow through with your commitment. If an emergency situation arises, contact the Head Committee Chair and the PTSO directly (ptso@sunlakeacademy.org) ASAP so that PTSO can make other arrangements. No shows cause a significant strain on events and other volunteers. Multiple no shows without contact will lead to loss of volunteer privileges.

BE PROMPT

Volunteers should arrive early to be ready to start your commitment on time and stay for the entire time slot.

CODE OF CONDUCT

All volunteers must be scheduled with teachers or PTSO. Pop ins and/or wandering will not be permitted or tolerated by SAMS and will lead to loss of volunteer privileges.

CHECK IN

Everyone must check in at the school's front office, explain your volunteer duties to office staff, wear a visitor’s tag and always keep it visible. When leaving, sign out in the office. Only the front office door can be used to enter/exit the building. Students are not permitted to open a door for a volunteer.

BE & DRESS APPROPRIATE

Volunteers will maintain appropriate, civil demeanor and language while volunteering. Profanity and other language or actions deemed unprofessional by the school’s administration may result in the loss of volunteer privileges. Volunteers will dress appropriately when volunteering in or for the school. Make sure all undergarments are covered and no midriffs showing.

NO DISTRACTIONS

While volunteering, please do not bring children with you or use your cell phone. Refrain from any side conversations or actions that would be distracting to students, teachers or other visitors.

BE CONFIDENTIAL

Volunteers are to remain confidential regarding viewing student learning, observing special needs, etc.

KNOW YOUR BOUNDARIES

Students are to respect volunteers and the teacher is responsible for any discipline issues.

ASK QUESTIONS

Never assume. If you are unclear of your duties or responsibilities, please ask your Head Committee Chair or our PTSO directly (ptso@sunlakeacademy.org).

RESPECT THE STAFF

Volunteers should always follow teacher/staff members directions. Teachers and staff have priority to use copy machines, equipment, etc.

The SAMS PTSO thanks you for volunteering!

Each school year all volunteers need to have acknowledged the Volunteer Guidelines and presented a valid driver's license to the front office 48 hours prior to volunteering for a background check (this includes volunteering for any field trips).
**Background checks will not be completed after March 31, 2025.**
